The deadline to submit abstracts for ION GNSS 2005 is Monday,
March 7, 2005.
Abstracts should be in the form of a paper summary consisting of
between 800
and 1000 words and should describe objectives, anticipated or
actual
results, conclusions, and the significance of your work.
** To submit your abstract, choose one of the following methods:

Go to www.ion.org and click on
ION GNSS 2005, then the "Online Abstract
Submission" link.
EMAIL:
Send your one-page abstract to
abstractsubmission@ion.org . Be sure to
include phone, address and email information for the contact
author, as well
as a list of all contributing authors and appropriate session
choices. The
subject line should read, "ION GNSS 2005 Abstract Submission".
FAX:
Send a fax containing the above information to (703) 383-9689.
** VERIFICATION OF ABSTRACT RECEIPT
The title and author of all abstracts received will be posted on
the ION
website within 7 days of receipt. After submitting your abstract
by one of
the above methods, be sure to check the list within a few days
to be certain
it was received by the ION.

BOOK BY JAMES. B. TSUI
Comments on the Second Edition of Fundamentals of Global
Positioning Receivers – A Software Approach by James B. Tsui
(Hardback)
This new edition of Jim Tsui’s book retains the excellent
material of the first edition and considerably extends the
perspective on current receiver systems technology. About 114
pages have been added, primarily addressing the reception of GPS
weak signals. This area has become very important with the
interest in receiving GPS positions indoors and in the
enhancement of the capabilities of the FCC mandated E911 cell
phone services. The book addresses the Acquisition of Weak
Signals (new Chapter Ten) and provides a readable discussion of
coherent and noncoherent integration techniques. There are many
graphics in the book that illustrate the points made in the text
in a clear manner. Simulations and experimental data is shown
and matched against the analytically expected values.
The book then addresses Tracking Weak Signals (Chapter Eleven)
discussing the general need for low dynamics (unless aided) and
the process for finding the pseudoranges. The properties of the
various correlation techniques are then covered with their pro’s
and con’s.
GPS Related Subjects (Chapter Twelve) covers a variety of topics
including some special properties of the almanac data,
acquisition of nonperiodic signals, integration in the frequency
domain and real time operation of a software receiver. A brief
discussion of cell phone positioning concerns and applications
is also provided.
In summary, an excellent new edition of the Tsui book providing
both conventional receiver and software receiver design,
information combined now with needed and hard to find text
information on the developing weak signal area.
The book is published by John Wiley and Sons and is available
from Navtech for $104.50.

Versatile Septentrio GNSS platform provides early L2C tracking
capability Leuven, Belgium - Septentrio, a leading European
developer of high-end GNSS receivers, is showing an early
receiver implementation of the new civil GPS signal on L2 at the
Institute of Navigation (IoN) show in Portland, Oregon this
week. Based on the technology used for its commercial line of
high-end multi-signal satellite navigation receivers, PolaRx2,
Septentrio has built a versatile extension platform that allows
fast implementation of new satellite navigation signals. This
platform is built with an FPGA and is integrated with
Septentrio’s PolaRx2 receiver building blocks, combining
flexibility with re-use of proven technology. The architecture
not only allows fast implementation of tracking and decoding of
new signals, but also simplifies evolution to integrated
solutions with existing GPS/ SBAS receivers.
“The Septentrio prototype receiver is one of the very first
platforms we have seen capable of tracking the L2C signals”,

“Connecting the Septentrio receiver to Spirent’s new L2C
simulator proved straightforward, and it was good to see the
Septentrio platform tracking the simulated L2C signal.
Septentrio’s platform performed well in the tests and Spirent
was able to verify the functionality and performance of the
simulator with a L2C receiver.”
