1:30 - 5:00, Monday, String 7
NEW!  720A: Technology for GPS Interference Suppression I

Register for this tutorial  ~  Back to main tutorials page

This tutorial reviews the various technologies that are both currently implemented and proposed to mitigate the effects of jamming and unintentional interference on GPS signal reception and navigation. The performance benefits and limitations of each technology are presented. The building blocks of anti-jam techniques are discussed, including the antenna, antenna electronics (signal and spatial processing), and receiver.

The course is useful for engineers and managers and other technical personnel who want to gain an understanding of the increasingly important subject of GPS interference suppression principles, techniques, and trade-offs. This tutorial continues as 720B on Monday Evening.

Dr. Ira Weiss
Aerospace
&

Mr. Allen Morrison
SAIC

Part I
• GPS interference and jamming effects in the presence of GPS legacy
   and modernized signals
• Antenna array basics
• Adaptive antenna algorithm basics and processing issues
• Antenna electronics design considerations
• Signal processing interference suppression filters
• Space-time/space-frequency adaptive processing benefits and
   implementation trade-offs

Level: Assumes an understanding of GPS, GPS signal structure, and familiarity with signal processing methods.

NEW!  720B: Technology for GPS Interference Suppression II

Register for this tutorial  ~  Back to main tutorials page

720B is the Monday evening continuation of 720A tutorial on Mon. afternoon. This session provides an in-depth mathematical foundation for the various adaptive antenna algorithms that have been implemented for GPS interference suppression and identifies the sources of performance degradation resulting from practical implementation of these algorithms. Advances in antenna array design and methods for characterizing system performance are also described.

This course is useful for engineers, system analysts, and others who require an in-depth understanding of adaptive interference suppression techniques and limitations and methodologies for testing anti-jam system performance.

Part II
• Details of adaptive algorithms, math foundation and algorithm
  techniques
• Miniature array design and performance
• Antenna array & electronics characterization and multipath
   performance issues
• Test metrics and configurations for system level interference
   suppression characterization.

Level: Assumes an understanding of GPS, GPS signal structure, and familiarity with signal processing methods.
