VN-300 SMD GPS-Aided INS
The VN-300 from VectorNav is available in two different packaging options: the OEM surface mount device (SMD) and the “Rugged” module.
The VN-300 surface mount device is a miniature Dual Antenna GPS-Aided Inertial Navigation System (GPS/INS) (about the size of a quarter) that provides GPS heading and roll or pitch backed by MEMS 3-axis sensors for an off-the-shelf, high-performance inertial navigation sensing solution.
At the size of a postage stamp, the VN-300 SMD requires only a single 3.2-5.5V power supply, and can be directly embedded into a user’s electronics. Interface with the VN-300 SMD is made easy by using either the serial 3V TTL (UART) or the Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI).
- Size: 24 x 22 x 3 mm
- Power: 185 mA @ 3.3 V
- Mass: 5 g
VectorNav Line
Building on VectorNav’s VN-100 IMU/AHRS and VN-200 GPS/INS line of miniature inertial sensors, the VN-300 enables a wider range of applications by incorporating GPS compassing techniques, which provide for accurate GPS-based heading determination in static conditions.
- The VN-300 is encased in a precision anodized aluminum enclosure for easy integration into a wide variety of applications.
- With a size of only 45 x 44 x 11 mm and a weight of 30 grams, the VN-300 is the smallest commercially available industrial grade dual antenna GPS/INS.
Combining two advanced GPS receivers with the latest in MEMS inertial sensor technology, the VN-300 provides a coupled position, velocity and attitude solution that is robust to a wide range of static and dynamic operating conditions. The VN-300 onboard microprocessor runs an aerospace-grade Kalman filter algorithm at rates up to 400 Hz and provides accuracies better than 0.1 deg RMS in pitch and roll and 0.3 deg RMS in heading in dynamic conditions and 0.5 deg RMS in pitch and roll and 0.3 deg RMS in heading in static conditions.
Precision alignment holes are provided to ensure accurate installation and a 10-pin locking connector is used to provide a reliable connection in severe high vibration or shock conditions.
Communication with the VN-300 is possible using the serial TTL (UART) via a custom RS-232 or USB cable. The system incorporates two 50 channel GPS receivers and uses GPS interferometry techniques for determining the True North heading of the sensor under both stationary and moving conditions. The VN-300 also directly outputs the raw pseudorange, Doppler, and carrier phase measurements from the two GPS receivers.
The VN-300 is ideal for applications that require an accurate position, velocity and attitude solution under both static and dynamic operating conditions, especially in environments with unreliable magnetic heading, and can be used in a wide variety of industrial and military applications.
It is well suited for size, weight, power and cost (SWAP-C) constrained applications such as UAVs and other unmanned vehicle systems, camera and platform stabilization, guided munitions, heavy machinery monitoring, robotics, primary or secondary flight navigation, flight simulation, and augmented/virtual reality platforms among others.
Available enclosed as shown, or as a surface mount unit without the rugged enclosure. See specifications data sheet.
